Application for admission as transfer student , a processing fee and supporting credentials must be filed with the Admissions Office by the published deadlines described. A late fee will be imposed if any application is received after deadline. The official transcripts should be mailed directly to the University Admissions Office from the record office of all colleges or universities previously attended Transcripts submitted for admission turn into University's belongings and will not be returned to the applicant. If the student fails to list all institutions previously attended, it may result in loss of credit and/or dismissal from the university. This policy does not give the permission to the University of Utah to duplicate transcripts from other universities or colleges or to return a transcript to a student.
Applicants transferring from another college or university are expected to have previously graduated from an accredited high school. Students graduating from a Utah high school after 2005 will be required to have earned the Utah Basic High School Diploma to be eligible for admissions. If the student seeking transfer admission has completed less than 30 semester hours of acceptable transfer work, a high school transcript and ACT or SAT test scores are required.
Applicants who have not graduated from high school seven years prior to the term of admission must have the high school preparation described in the freshman section. Applicants with 30 semester hours or more of transferable work and a cumulative college-level GPA of 2.6 or higher will probably be granted admission.
Those with a cumulative GPA below 2.6 will most probably be denied. Students who have an associate of arts or an associate of science degree from a regionally accredited institution may be admitted with a 2.35 or higher GPA. The Credits and Admissions Committee will check the add-on information for applicants requesting special consideration. Admissions requirements, deadlines and fees are subject to change without prior notice.
Transfer credit earned in residence at other accredited collegiate institutions is generally accepted for advanced standing if the work is parallel in nature to programs offered at this university, and if grades of D- or better have been earned in the credited courses. The transfer evaluation and summary of transfer credit is subject to audit and re-evaluation. Any appeals for credit not recognized by the University of Utah for transfer should be initiated in the Admissions Office.
